Failure: A Love Story – by Philip Dawkins
Directed by E. C. Glass senior Kate Pittard under the tutelage and supervision of current Technical Director, Mr. JD Stallings. Performs on November 7 at VHSL.
By the end of 1928, all three Fail sisters will be dead — expiring in reverse order, youngest to oldest, from blunt object to the head, disappearance, and finally consumption. Tuneful songs, and a whimsical chorus follow the story of Nelly, Jenny June, and Gerty as they live out their lives above the family clock repair shop near the Chicago River, before their time unexpectedly runs out. A magical, musical fable where, in the end, the power of love is far greater than any individual’s successes or failures.

This Is Not a Pipe Dream – by Barry Kornhauser
Developed for the stage by the students of Acting 2 under the supervision of course instructor and current Director of Theatre Arts, Mr. E. Tom Harris III. Performs on October 22 at VTA.
Based freely on the work and early life of surrealist artist Rene Magritte, this is an unorthodox adventure in theatrical form. It celebrates art and the imagination, and the ways in which these help us confront life’s mysteries. Here is the story of young Rene who wants to be an artist, a notion dismissed by his father as “a pipe dream.” Encouraged by his mother, before her untimely death, the boy begins his quest, following his vision into the delightfully absurd magic-realism of his famous paintings. Boy and audience discover something of the true power of dreams and the triumph of imagination.
